Loving what you Hate

By: Amanda Tatum

When I was young

I learned what hate was.

I learned that you can love someone

while hating them.

At young age I told him

I hate him.

But Daddy didn't like it.
His hands struck with fire.
My cheek all burned up.

“Never say that again.”

Daddy’s words stood firm.

Then a tear fell from my eye.

Now I am a teen,
and this is why I write.
Never believe a father is a daddy.

When the hitting isn't right.

When you are young

you’re yet to understand.

Then you’ll grow older

that’ll be all damned.

From now you must know.
Hating isn't something low.
You love and hate

just don’t be nice on debate.
